Apple recently announced its list for best for the Apps and iTunes store. It acknowledged apps that had focus on learning of language or showcased extraordinary visual design.
In June, the iPad and iPone Games of this year won Apple Design awards. Ridiculous Fishing: ATale of Redemption, an iPhone game by Vlambeer was the winner with its wonderfully flat design. The iPad game Frogland’s Badland was featured for its flourishing HD graphics for creating an intimidating ambiance. The Disney animated iPad App of the year employs engaging features & clips to showcase the story of how all of 53 movies by the Walt Disney Animation Studio were made.
Duolingo, iPhone App of the Year, is first and best of all for transforming learning language by simply making it more and more available.
Apple separately selects top apps of the particular year based on their performance in terms of downloads and sales.
It is obvious that most of this top performing apps by downloads are games. The app called King’s Candy Crush Saga was top in three categories. Firstly number one free iPhone app, secondly number one free iPad app and finally highly paid iPad app. The highly paid iPhone app is Minercraft. It was published by Minecraft.
Vine & Snapchat did well in non-gaming app segment. They placed themselves on 4th and 6th spot respectively in the Top Free iPhone Apps chart. Pandora Radio, Afterlight and the Sleep Cycle were runners-up across the segments.
In iTunes pop and rap made top on the chart. Justin Timberlake became artist of the year with his album ‘The 20/20 Experience’. ‘The Heist’ became album of the year. ‘Royals’ became dubbed song of the year. ‘Good Kid M.A.A.D. City’ by Kendrick Lamar got the breakthrough album credit.
‘Gravity’ became film of the year. ‘Despicable Me 2’ became the best animation film of the year. Chiwetel Ejiofor won best male performance for his role in ’12 Years a Slave’. Cate Blanchett got best female performance for her role in ‘Blue Jasmine’.
The final season of ‘Breaking Bad’ won the TV Show of the Year. The third season of ‘Scandal’ became winner for the best breakthrough. Canadian sci-fi TV series ‘Orphan Black’ won best discovery. Best Reality TV was season three of ‘Buck Dynasty’.
In iBooks segment, George Saunders’ Tenth December won the best novel of the year. In non-fiction category One Summer by Bill Bryson became the winner. The Rithmatist by Brandson Sanderson was the winner for best book for young adults. The Breaking Bad tie-in was the best book designed for iBooks.
